Our Contribution
To date, sales of Coastal Reserve have raised over €50,000. This money has been donated to Plastic Oceans Europe, to help them progress their goal of ending plastic pollution through Films, Education, Activism, Advocacy and Science. It has contributed to run 49 clean up events held across Europe, removing around 1.9 tonnes of plastic from the ocean & beaches. This has involved an astounding 1,652 volunteers and has helped to create 14 Blue Communities. The donation has contributed to teaching future generations about plastic pollution across 14 schools.
About Plastic Oceans Europe
About Plastic Oceans Europe
Partnering for the planet
Plastic pollution is one of the greatest threats to our natural environment. With more plastic produced in the last 10 years than the previous century, and approximately eight million tonnes of plastic ending up in our oceans every year, its impact on marine life, the environment and our own food chain is undeniable.
Fighting plastic pollution
Plastic Oceans Europe is part of Plastic Oceans International. With activities in 90 countries across six continents, they help foster a worldwide network of more sustainable communities, working towards a world that embraces a forward-thinking, circular economy with minimal plastic.
Activism
Activism through words and actions are key components of the organisation’s drive for a plastic-free future. Since 2018, Plastic Oceans Europe have played a part in clearing over 100,000 pounds of plastic from over 120 beach clean events - something Coastal Reserve wines are proud to be a very small part of.
Advocacy
From creating films that motivate people to take action to playing a vital role in the 2023 UN Ocean Conference in Portugal, advocating for public policy changes that help reduce plastic pollution is a fundamental part of the organisation’s drive to inspire positive change.
Education
Providing educational programmes to schools, corporations and communities around the globe, the organisation aims to create powerful experiences for students and teachers alike through learning initiatives, films and interactive workshops.
Science
Plastic Oceans Europe is involved in a number of research projects that study how microplastics impact the health of wildlife and marine habitats as well as the impact it has on our own health.
Be part of the change
The Coastal Reserves team regularly attend beach cleans across the UK, hosted by Plastic Oceans Europe.
The events are open to everyone and are a great way to bring people together to take local action that can make a significant impact.
Beach clean
In partnership with Plastic Oceans Europe, we believe that local action can help contribute to broader change. We’ve already participated in a number of UK beach cleans, from Brighton and Saunton Sands to Skegness and Trecco Bay in Wales, with many more planned for the future!
The Day
In September 2022 we attended a beach clean, hosted by Plastic Oceans Europe in conjunction with Parkdean Resorts, at Trecco Bay Holiday Park in Wales.
Coastal Reserve, in partnership with Plastic Oceans Europe, joined forces with almost 100 residents and visitors to clear rubbish from Trecco Bay. During the day we removed a grand total of 63kg of waste from the beach including bottles, cans, clothing and toys. With an educational talk on the impact of plastic on our oceans, a successful beach clean and a debrief over lunch, the event aimed to both make a change today and educate people on how they can create positive change for the future.
